The Problem…

Many young people today are growing up in a world built around distraction. Phones, short-form content, gaming, and social media compete constantly for attention and reading is often the thing that disappears.

At the same time, secondary schools face increasing academic pressure and limited curriculum time, meaning sustained independent reading can easily take a back seat.

For many teenagers, reading slowly stops becoming part of their identity.

The Solution…

The Teen Read Institute helps teenagers rebuild confidence, focus, and identity as readers.

Many young people do not dislike reading because they are incapable of it. More often, reading has become associated with pressure, distraction, frustration, or a feeling that books simply are not “for them”.

The Teen Read Institute takes a different approach.

Through personalised mentoring, carefully chosen books, structured routines, and thoughtful discussion, students begin to reconnect with reading in a way that feels manageable, rewarding, and personal.

Our six week programme is designed for teenagers aged 11–16 who are:

  • reluctant to read

  • lacking confidence in English

  • struggling to sustain focus

  • academically capable but disengaged

  • or simply unsure where to begin

Built by an experienced secondary English teacher and literacy leader, the programme combines educational expertise with genuine understanding of teenage readers and the challenges they face today.

The goal is not simply to “complete books”.

It is to help young people build the confidence, stamina, habits, and identity that allow reading to become part of their lives again.
